The players couldn't have asked for better weather as the normally windy Waikoloa Beach Course gave way to slight trade winds during the first two rounds of the Dennis Rose Women's Invitational.
Four strokes separate the top five players with Academy of Art University's Crystal Faith Superal leading the way with at 8-over-par 148. Two strokes behind is Grand Canyon University's Georgina Dunn (75-75) followed by GCU's Tiffany Hewetson (76-75). Tied for fourth place are University of Hawaii at Hilo's Dayna Bersamin (76-76) and Nicole Aoki (78-74).
Grand Canyon leads the team competition by seven strokes over UHH 612-619. Cal State East Bay is third at 643 followed by Academy of Art at 649.
UHH's Randi Ono is in seventh place at 13-over-par 155 (76-79). UHH's other two players are Nyssa Aoki (83-83) and Kiley Umeda (77-89) are tied for 14th place.
“The biggest challenge is keeping focused and taking one shot at a time,” said UHH Head Coach Jim DeMello. “They focused for most of the round but had a few bumps along the way. We had a few big numbers that made our score higher. “
