Green taking the leap

After two years as the University of Hawaii Hilo men's soccer assistant, Bryan Green has been given the opportunity to lead the men's program.

“I am continuing the learning process that Coach Cam Camarena began.” said Green, “Cam brought possession soccer to Hilo. It is an entertaining style of soccer. It is physical and intelligent. The key to our style of soccer is momentum and timing. I am asking my players to work hard and to make good decisions.”

These good decisions will come from experience and the Vulcan's have that experience.   On the roster are fifth-year seniors Drew Geis, Gene Okamura and George Ichimaru. Also returning are goal keeper Dane Kaylor and defender Jaaziel Garcia.

“The key to our success is the first touch,” said Green. “Everything else builds off of that. Our student athletes will be asked to make important decisions at a fast rate. With a high level of ball control, they can begin to see the game two or three steps ahead. This is the key to our soccer.

“We want to make a series of good decisions while giving our opponents the opportunity to make a bad decision.  And that is the moment Hilo will strike.”

These season starts on the road as they venture to Oahu's north shore to face Brigham Young University-Hawaii on Saturday, August 28.
