Season ending win

The University of Hawaii at Hilo ended the season on a winning note with a 2-1 victory over the Academy of Art University in Pacific West Conference play in San Francisco, Calif.

“It was a good victory overall and a good way to send off our seniors,” said UHH Head Coach Marc Miranda. “The girls really battle hard.”

Kristine Pasek's header off of a pass from Lindsey Poulsen got the Vulcans going just five minutes into the match. Chelsea Gomez later found Brianna Lopiccolo in the box with a pass at her feet. Lopiccolo gave the Vulcans a 2-0 lead.

The Vulcans' season ends at 5-9-2 overall and 3-7-2 in the PacWest.

Despite the record, Miranda earnestly points out the Vulcans winning three of four matches to end the season.

“We finished strong and the way we wanted to,” said Miranda. “All those mistakes we were making in the beginning we kind of got sorted out. We looked more like a veteran team in that respect. In looking at the schedule we faced a lot of the top teams early on. While they were in top form we were still trying to find ourselves.

“I think we did a good job of building and finishing strong.”
