The fluidity provided by eight seniors and a solid recruiting class gave the University of Hawaii at Hilo a resounding 90-62 season opening win over Chaminade University in a non-conference game played in the UH Hilo gym.
Five players, led by newcomer
Jazzmyn Davis' 16 points, were in double-figure scoring with no one playing more than 23 minutes. Junior
Kamie Imai tallied 12 points while seniors
Kirsten Shimizu,
Jamiea McDuffice and
Natalie Mata had 12 points each.
On the boards, senior guard
Shannon Rousseau had a game-high seven while Davis and Imai had six each.

The Vulcans got off to a quick 14-4 lead with under 3:30 off the clock. A Silversword basket later would cut the lead to eight but McDuffie and Imai answered with lay-ups to establish a double-digit they would never lose.
“Even though we played a lot of players, there are a lot of players who are in the mix for playing time or a starting spot,” UH Hilo Head Coach
David Kaneshiro said. “That's probably why there wasn't much of a drop off in play because they've got something to prove each time they step out on the court. They know when they step out there they have to perform or there is somebody else who is going to get their minutes.
"That makes practice more competitive.”
