One play short

The game came down to a pair of free throws with a second on the clock. Unfortunately they were not the Vulcans who took those two shots as the University of Hawaii at Hilo fell to Shippensburg University 52-20 in the Oahu Classic.

The Vulcans (2-1) trailed 50-44 with 2:20 to go. After Kamie Imai's layup cut the margin by a basket Jamiea McDuffie took control. On the defensive, McDuffie stole tha ball and was fouled as she sped down the court and sank two free throws.  McDuffie then grabbed Shippensburgs next missed shot, got foul and sank both freethrows to tie the game with a minute to go.

Following another missed shot, the Vulcans got the ball back and played for the last shot.  That shot missed it's mark and the Vulcans were tagged with a foul.

With a second left on the clock, both shots found the bottom of the net.

“It was a tough loss,” UH Hilo Head Coach David Kaneshiro said. “We're all disappointed. We played hard and just didn't execute.”

Kirsty Imai led the Vulcans with 10 points while McDuffie added nine points on 9 of 10 shooting from the free throw line.
