Run ends short

Natalie Mata
The University of Hawaii at Hilo ran off 13 unanswered points to finish the game but were one basket short in the 61-59 loss to Hawaii Pacific University in the non-conference game on Oahu.

Trailing 59-46, the Vulcans offense went inside and picked up lay-ups by Jamiea McDuffie and Kamie Imai. When the lay-ups weren't working they picked up fouls and went to the line with McDuffice hitting four and Kirsten Shimizu a pair. Proving that they also have an outside game, Shimizu hit a 3-pointer with 44 seconds remaining to tie the game.

“We've shown some flashes over the last three games,” UH Hilo Head Coach David Kaneshiro said. “Now we have to be a bit more consistent in our execution and think we'll be fine.”

Imai and McDuffie led the Vulcans with 11 points each while Imai also grabbed seven rebounds.
