Post-players added

Jazzmyn Davis and Briana Smythe
University of Hawaii at Hilo women's basketball Hilo Head Coach David Kaneshiro has added a pair of post players for the 2012-13 season with the commitments of Jazzmyn Davis and Briana Smythe.

“We are very excited that Jazzmyn and Briana will be in our program next year,” said Kaneshiro. “They are hard workers, tough competitors and unselfish teammates.”

Davis (Pacoima, CA/Birmingham High School), a 5-foot-10 forward, was a two-time first-team all-Western State Conference South Division selection at College of the Canyons (Santa Clarita, Calif.).  She led her team to the 2011-12 division championship while averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds per game.

“Jazzmyn enjoyed an excellent career at the College of the Canyons,” said Kaneshiro. “She is an athletic forward who can play in the low post and on the perimeter at both ends of the floor.”

Smythe (Winnetka, CA/Taft High School), a 5-11 forward, was a first-team all-Western State Conference South Division selection at Los Angeles Valley College (Van Nuys, Calif.). She averaged nine points and 10 rebounds per game as her team finished the season with an 18-12 record.

“Briana brings a good combination of toughness and skill to the post position,” said Kaneshiro. “She is an effective low post scorer, defender and rebounder who can also run the floor and play facing the basket.”
