Taking care of the rock hoisted the Vulcans to a 75-65 win over St. Martin's University to start the 
GE Coleman Era at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
 
"That was the difference," Coleman said. "We force those turnovers and took care of it when we had it.
 
"We have to play hard and selfless, and that's what we did tonight."
 
Although the Vulcans struggled from the field, they were able to convert opportunities at the charity stripe to points on the board hitting 28 of 34 attempts.
 
Joey Rodriguez led the Vulcans with 11 of 14 shooting from the stripe and a game-high 17 points.
 
Darnell Williams added 14 points while 
Jamario Clayton and 
Lucas Swanson added 10 each.
