Basketball standouts Allie Navarette and Randan Berinobis have been selected as the UH Hilo Pepsi Athletes of the Week, covering the time frame of January 8-15.

Freshman center Allie Navarette had a pair of stellar games as the Vulcans split road games in northern California. In an upset win over Notre Dame de Namur, she hit 11 of 12 free throws in the final 42 seconds to clinch the victory. She had a career-high 26 points and seven rebounds in the win. Two nights earlier in a loss to Fresno Pacific, she had 15 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots. For the two games, the Torrance, Calif. native had 41 points and 13 rebounds, and hit 21 of 23 free throw attempts. 

Local product (Hilo HS) and senior forward/guard Randan Berinobis had solid efforts during two road losses to Fresno Pacific and Notre Dame de Namur. He had a season-best 17 points and eight rebounds against the Sunbirds and added a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards against the Argonauts. For the long weekend games, he totaled 31 points and 18 rebounds, hitting 10 of 19 shots from the field, three of six from three-point range and eight of 12 free throws.
