Junior forward Allie Navarette put together her two highest scoring games of the season in a 48-hour period, helping to land her the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week award and the Pepsi Athlete of the Week. Navarette had a career-high 34 points in a 74-64 loss to Academy of Art on Friday night and added 31 points on Sunday during a 62-55 victory over Chaminade. The 34 points equaled the UH Hilo single-game scoring record, now shared with Sheila Azevedo, who also put up 34 in November of 2006 against Montana Tech. The Torrance, Calif. native converted 11 of 18 field goal attempts, nailed 12 of 13 free throws, had eight rebounds and two steals. Two nights later against the Silverswords, she swished home 12 of 18 shots from the field, hit seven of nine charity tosses, had ten rebounds and a steal. The 12 field goals equaled another single-game Vulcan record, shared with three other players (including current Vulcan Kim Schmelz). For the pair of games, she knocked down 23 of 36 shots (64 percent) and dropped in 19 of 22 free throws (86 percent). She had 18 rebounds and three steals.
