Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans Athletics

Senior libero Kaila Lizama had a banner year for a Vulcan team that advanced to the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 2011. She set a school record with 582 digs on the season and had 35 digs in a wild 5-set win at home over conference champion Azusa Pacific. That total ties for fifth best in the Vulcan single-match record book. The Kauai native had 860 career digs, seventh in the Vulcan all-time book. She had 30 service aces, third highest total on the team. She had 29 digs each in back-to-back matches against Fresno Pacific and Dominican, and was named the PacWest Defender of the Week. The 5-foot-7 defensive specialist ranked fifth in the PacWest in digs. Lizama, who recently married former Vulcan tennis standout Vaclav Slezak, was named to the PacWest Scholar-Athlete team with a 3.32 GPA in Psychology. She graduated in the spring.
