Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans Athletics

Vulcan tennis player Luca Checchia helped the Vulcans to a pair of big victories on the road last week in southern California. On Monday at No. 14 nationally ranked Concordia he won his match at No. 3 singles in a three-set battle over Mike Jansen (6-4, 5-7, 5-1, Def.), and also teamed with Santiago Di Loreto to win on court 2 in doubles, 7-5. The Vulcans topped the Eagles, 4-2. The next day in San Diego against Point Loma, the Valencia, Spain native won another three-set battle in singles, this time over PL's Yuki Okamoto (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) and triumphed again with Di Loreto in doubles. On the season, the sophomore is now 4-0 in singles and 3-2 in doubles.
