Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans Athletics

Senior pitcher Valerie Alvarado was outstanding over the weekend as the softball Vulcans swept four games from Chaminade. The La Mirada, Calif. native pitched a total of 16 innings and didn't allow an earned run, notching a win and a no decision. She gave up just nine hits the entire weekend in the games played in Kona, walked ten and fanned six. In Sunday's opening game she tossed a two-hit shutout during a 7-0 UHH win. On the season, Alvarado is 2-0 with a 0.30 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .167 against her.
