Hawai'i Hilo Vulcans Athletics

Senior pitcher Kyle Alcorn was more than gritty during a series-opening 8-1 win over Hawaii Pacific on Saturday in Hilo. He worked his way out of big trouble in the first and second innings and then got in a pitching groove. When was all said and done, he pitched seven innings (102 pitches), allowed only four hits, no earned runs, walked two and struck out three. He earned the win to improve to 1-1 on the season. The lefthander's 1.86 ERA is tops among Vulcan starters. Opponents are hitting just .243 against the Lakewood, Calif. native.
