Heinemann awarded Hall Scholarship

Emily Heinemann
Outfielder Emily Heinemann (senior, LaCrescenta, CA) is the recipient of the Mr. and Mrs. George D. Hall, Jr. Memorial Athletic Scholarship at the University of Hawaii at Hilo for the spring 2012 semester as announced by the UHH Office of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Nominated by Coach Jaime Wallin, Heinemann exhibits strong team spirit, demonstrates enthusiasm for the game and motivates other players.

The scholarship was established by Hall family in memory of George and Marion Hall in 1991.

Big Island residents for almost 60 years, the Halls were true pioneers of community service on the Big Island. Over the years, they generously gave their time and talents to a staggering variety of volunteer projects including Vulcan Athletics.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo long remained one of the Halls' favorite activities. In the late 1950's, when it was still a two-year school known as the Hilo Campus, George served as a volunteer athletic director. He also chaired the Athletic Advisory Board and arranged for the inmates of the Kulani Prison to construct the first athletic field on the campus.

The Halls were charter member of the UHH "Vulcans" Athletic Booster Club when it was formed in 1970. They served food at potlucks, hosted visiting teams at their home, contributed money and raised money, and did all the other things that were so critical in the initial days of the budding athletic program.
The Vulcan Booster Club established an award in George and Marion's name to be given annually to the "Booster of the Year".
