UH Hilo to take on Big Brother: The Vulcans will take on their sister school UH Manoa on Tuesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Unlike last year, when the Rainbow Warriors defeated the Vuls (86-67) in an exhibition game, this contest will be a regular season game for both schools.
Â
Hilo Headlines: This will be the first game for UHH since returning from a three-game swing through the Pacific Northwest last week. The Vulcans won their season opener at the Sodexo Classic, defeating Simon Fraser (88-73), before dropping close contests to host Seattle Pacific (88-80) and Saint Martin's (97-89).
Â
Parker Scores Points: Senior guard
Parker Farris (6-4, McKinleyville, Calif.) ranks 11
th in NCAA Division II rankings in scoring, averaging 27.3 points a game. He tied his career high in the season opener against Simon Fraser, knocking down 32 points and hitting six three-pointers in the process. In three games, Farris has nailed 23 of 25 free throws (92 percent). He also averages five assists a game and four rebounds a contest.
Â
Double-Almost for Johnson-Wilson: 6-6, 255-pound junior forward
Darius Johnson-Wilson is nothing if not consistent. The Tacoma CC transfer, who played in just two games last year before missing the season with an injury, has had nine rebounds in all three games this year—just missing a double-double. He scored 22 points against Simon Fraser, 21 versus Seattle Pacific and 19 against Saint Martin's.
Â
Pac West Grind Awaits: After the match-up with the Rainbow Warriors, the Vulcans will take Thanksgiving weekend off and then get ready for the start of the Pacific West Conference grind. UHH will open conference play at Chaminade on Wednesday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 at Hawaii Pacific. The Pacific West Conference consists of 14 teams—four in Hawaii, four in Southern California, four in Northern California, one in Central California and one in Utah.
Â
Head Coach GE Coleman: Vulcan head coach
GE Coleman enters into his fourth season as the leader of the UHH program. Inheriting a team that had won just six games, he has steadily built the team into a PWC tournament contender. Prior to arriving on the Big Island, Coleman was the associate head coach at Central Washington for six seasons, and an assistant with the Wildcats for another five years prior to that. He was an assistant for two seasons at Eastern Washington. His assistant,
Mark McLaughlin, is a former CWU standout who twice led the nation in scoring at over 27 points a game.
Â
A Look Back: Last year the Vulcans began the year on a horrific nine-game losing streak, but righted the ship enough to finish 9-11 in conference play (9-15 overall), just missing the Pac West Conference tournament by one game.
 Â
Rainbow Warrior Words: Hawai`i opens a string of three home games in six nights when they host the Vulcans. Troy (Nov. 25) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 27) follow. They are coming off a loss to No. 5 nationally ranked North Carolina (83-68) and are 2-2 on the season. Head coach Eran Ganot is in his second season at Manoa, and is coming off a 28-6 season, an NCAA tournament berth—and a win over Cal in the first round. Four players average in double figure number for Hawai`i, led by 6-7 Noah Allen's 17.8 ppg. The Rainbow Warriors lead the all-time series vs. the Vulcans, 7-0.
