BELMONT, Calif.—Host Notre Dame de Namur scored early and often during a 8-1 men's soccer win over visiting Hawai`i Hilo on Thursday afternoon at Koret Field.
The Argonauts scored twice in the first 11 minutes to put the pressure on early and continued in attack mode all day. The victory allowed NDNU to improve to 4-5-1 in Pacific West Conference play and to 5-10-2 overall.
The Vulcans, who won the opening match of this three-game road trip, fell to 3-7 in the PacWest and to 4-11 on the year.
UH Hilo got on the board early in the second half, when
Bradley Doyle took a pass from
Pedro Werneck at the top of the box and deposited it past the far post, to cut the Argonauts' margin to two (3-1). It was Doyle's first goal of the season and Werneck's second assist.
But NDNU answered quickly, scoring another insurance goal five minutes later to begin to put the match out of reach. Before it was all said and done, the Argonauts would score twice in the first 11 minutes, once in the 37
th, another in the 59
th and 68
th, and three times in the final eight minutes of the match.
Naia Graham would complete the hat trick for the Argo's with three goals on the day.
NDNU had 29 shots, 16 of them on goal. UH Hilo had seven shots, three on goal. NDNU also had eight corner kicks to UH Hilo's one.
The Vulcans will wrap up the 2018 season on Saturday against Fresno Pacific. Start time is 5 p.m. Pacific.
