Eagles get revenge on Vulcans

IRVINE, Calif.--The Concordia Eagles kept in the hunt for a Pacific West Conference playoff berth and got revenge at the same time with a 94-58 men's basketball win over Hawai`i Hilo on Monday night at the CU Arena.

The Eagles improved to 10-7 in the PacWest,16-9 overall and are in fifth place (the top six teams make the tournament). UH Hilo dropped to 6-16 on the season and to 5-10 in conference play.

Back on December 4 in Hilo, the Vulcans planted a 90-84 loss on the Eagles, who was ranked No. 22 in the nation at the time. But there were three UH Hilo players on the roster at that time who were not in uniform tonight.

Concordia scored 55 points in the second half and 11 different Eagles entered into the scoring column.

Cameron English hit a three-pointer to open the game for CU and they would never trail. They led by as many as 17 points in the first half before taking a 39-27 lead at intermission.

The Vulcans cut the lead to nine points early in the second half on a Randan Berinobis three-pointer, but they would get no closer than that. The Eagles gradually increased their lead throughout the game.

Berinobis led the Vulcans with 17 points and eight rebounds. Eric Wattree was also in double figures with 11 points. But the Vulcans hit just 36 percent of their shots from the field and had 19 turnovers.

Brian Chambers led the Eagles with 27 points, and Tad Dufelmeier had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

UH Hilo will continue a grueling road trip with a game against California Baptist on Tuesday night. It will be UH Hilo's third game in four nights.
