PORTLAND, Ore.--Hawai`i Hilo junior outside hitter Bria Beale has been named to the D2CCA All-West Region Volleyball Team.

Beale was named to the squad on the eve of UH Hilo's first NCAA tournament appearance since the 2011 season. The Vulcans open up tournament play on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Pacific time against Western Washington at Cal State San Bernardino's The Den.

Beale, who is one of seven members on the D2CCA First Team, is UH Hilo's first all-region selection since 2011 when Hillary Hurley was named to the AVCA All-West Region First Team.

Beale was one of just two Pacific West Conference players selected to the First Team. The team(s) are made up of players from the PacWest, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Alexis Cardoza of No. 1 nationally ranked Cal State San Bernardino was named the West Region Player of the Year.

Beale helped lead the Vulcans to a 23-7 overall record and a second place finish (18-4) in the Pacific West Conference. A First Team All-PacWest selection, she led the conference in kills (424) and points (483). Earlier this year, she was also selected to the CoSIDA All-West Region Academic Team, carrying a 3.82 grade point average in her major of Communications.
