Gators roll past Vulcans, 7-3

LAS VEGAS, Nev.—San Francisco State rapped out 12 hits and took advantage of five Hawai`i Hilo errors to claim a 7-3 win in the finale for both teams of the rain shortened Desert Stinger Softball Tournament at Majestic Park.

San Francisco State will leave the desert with a 3-0 record while the Vulcans wrap up the tournament at 1-2. UH Hilo will play single games against Central Washington and host Dixie State on Tuesday before playing in the Dixie State Courtyard Classic, beginning on Friday. Two of UH Hilo's games were rained oiut and will not be made up.

The Vulcans held a 3-2 lead after two innings, thanks to bases clearing double by Kimberly Olivas. But the Gators answered in the top of third with a home run by Brylynn Vallejos to take the lead 4-3, and they would never trail again.

UH Hilo couldn't get any offense going the rest of the game, thanks to the relief of the Gator's Emily Mitchell, who pitched three innings and gave up only two hits and fanned six.

Brinell Kaleikini had two of UHH's six total hits, and Olivas had the double with three RBI. Isabelle Mejia also had a double.

Vallejos had three hits for SFS, as did Andrea Hildan. The Gators had 12 hits overall, four of them for extra bases. Valerie Alvarado took the loss for the Vulcans (0-1).
