Eagles complete victory over Vulcans

LA MIRADA, Calif.—A softball series that may have seemed to some like it would never end finally did—and the result wasn't what the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans were looking for against Biola.

The fourth game of the series took two days, two rain delays and an injury time out before it was over, with the Eagles winning, 6-2. The game was finally in the books by 5:45 pm on Thursday, after a rain delay of over an hour at the scheduled start of the contest on Thursday.

With the loss, the Vulcans fell to 12-4 in the Pacific West Conference and to 17-7 overall. Biola moved 11-9 on the year and 6-4 in the PacWest.

When the game started on Wednesday night, Biola grabbed the early lead on Hailey Boyett's double and added two more runs in the third on a pair of hits, a wild pitch and an error. With the game still in the bottom of the third on Thursday, the Eagles continued the rally with a three-run double by Sicili Brittingham to push their lead to 6-0.

After a rain delay in the fourth, the Vulcans finally got on the scoreboard courtesy of Chloe Domingo's two-run single to make it 6-2. The Vulcans would threaten with runners on base in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but twice rallies were snuffed by double plays.

The Vulcans had just five hits in the game, two of them by Isabelle Mejia. Paula Damas was effective in the pitcher's circle for Biola, going 6.1 innings without giving up an earned run and just four hits. Valerie Alvarado took the loss for the Vulcans.

UH Hilo won't have much time to recover, traveling to Azusa Pacific for a four-game series that begins tomorrow (Friday) at 4 pm Pacific time.
