Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--Bria Beale had 15 kills and her Hawai`i Hilo Vulcans led mostly from start to finish during a 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 volleyball win over Dominican on Saturday night at the Conlan Center.
The Vulcans improved to 6-5 with the win and picked up their first Pacific West Conference victory as well (1-2). Dominican is now 1-8 on the year and 1-3 in conference play.
Beale averaged five kills per set to pace the Vulcans.
Amber Tai added nine kills, and
Emily Wade had eight kills. Wade, a 6-3 freshman, hit .316 and had three blocks, including a solo.
Kaila Lizama had 18 digs and freshman setter
Kendall Kott had 34 assists and a career-best four service aces.Â
The first set could have gone either way as the two teams traded points. The match was tied at 11, 14, 21, 22 and 23, before Tai's kill gave the Vulcans set-point at 24-23. A Penguin attack error gave the visitors the set at 25-23.Â
UH Hilo rolled out to a 14-7 lead and cruised in the second set, finishing off the game on a Tai kill. The third set was similar as UHH took a 9-4 lead and an 18-9 margin. The Vulcans would finish off the set and the match on a pair of Beale kills.Â
The Vulcans had nine aces in the match and held Dominican to a negative hitting percentage.
This was the first of five road matches for the Vulcans. They will next play at Fresno Pacific at 6 pm (Pacific) on Monday.Â
