The honors, like never before for a UH Hilo athlete, keep pouring in for volleyball standout
Bria Beale.
The graduate-senior was named today to the Co-SIDAÂ Academic All-District Volleyball Team. This is a third-time award for the 5-11 outside hitter, who was also a semifinalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year this Fall.
The Co-SIDA team is made up of the top scholar-athletes in the west region, taken from the Pacific West Conference, California Collegiate Athletic Association and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Only eight total student-athletes were named, selected by Sports Information Directors in the west region. The award is given, based on equal parts academic and athletic.Â
Beale will now advance to the Co-SIDA Academic All-American ballot.
This is the third selection for Beale, who was also chosen in 2019, last spring and now. She graduated with a 3.90 grade point average in Communication, and now has a 4.00 GPA in her graduate program of Psychology and Mental Health Counseling.
Beale's on court accolades are almost too numerous to count. After transferring from UC Irvine, she has twice been named First Team All-Pacific West Conference (2018 and 2019), and was PacWest All-Hawaii Pod pick past spring. In 2019 she was a First Team All-West Region pick (D2CCAA). She is surely destined to gain another PacWest First Team selection this year, and is a strong candidate for PacWest Player of the Year and more All-West Region honors.
Heading into her final weekend of collegiate volleyball, the Eastvale, Calif. native ranks second all-time at UHH in kills (1,289), is third in digs (1,172) and ranked third in service aces (122).Â
Beale leads the conference in kills and points this year, just as she did in 2019 and last spring.Â
The Vulcans, 16-6 overall and 13-5 in the PacWest, will wrap up their season this Friday against Chaminade and Saturday versus Hawaii Pacific. Both matches at Vulcan Gymnasium are scheduled for 7 pm.
