HILO, Hawai'i-- Nikki Miller earned her third double-double of the season and tied the school record for rebounds in a single game (19 rebounds), but the Vulcans ended up losing a close 72-70 battle in overtime. 

UH Hilo (2-1 overall) trailed behind Dakota Wesleyan (5-2 overall) for the first two quarters. After intermission the Vulcans stole the lead off a three from Mandi Kawaha. Kawaha quickly got another scoring opportunity landing a jumper, which widened their lead 49-45.

From then the Vulcans and Tigers went back and forth for points, both trying to hold a lead. It was Kawaha who sunk in the final three with 26 seconds on the clock to even the game and send her team into overtime. Dakota Wesleyan ended up pushing ahead in overtime, and the Vulcans ran out of time. 

Kawaha was the Vulcans lead scorer, dropping 19 points. Miller was just behind with 14 points and 19 rebounds. Sara Shimizu and Jenna Waki also hit double digits in points with 11 and 10 points respectively. Both Kawaha and Shimizu shot 2-2 on the free throw line. 

The women's basketball team plays next Friday, Dec. 3rd at 5pm HT. The Vulcans will kick off conference play against Concordia Irvine in the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
