Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 19 Vulcans Dropped a Nail-Biter in Overtime

ANCHORAGE, Alaska-- The No. 19 UH Hilo men's basketball team capped a three-game road trip with a nail-biter against Alaska Anchorage. UH Hilo lost a close 100-97 game in overtime.

The Vulcans (4-3) were down one point behind the Seawolves (5-2) going into the second half. UHH led by as much as six points in regulation but UAA was able to come back and take the lead in the final five minutes and 30 seconds.

UH Hilo was down by two points with 14 seconds to spare on the clock when Donald McHenry came up with a nice bucket in the paint to tie up the game 88-88.

The Vulcans pushed overtime, but it was the Seawolves who scored first. UAA's Oggie Pantovic scored the first basket in overtime.

The Vulcans, resilient as ever, worked their way back to take the lead. Aniwa Tait-Jones had a steal that gave McHenry the opportunity to score the leading bucket of 95-94.

UAA didn't stay down for long and ended up scoring five more points to conclude their 100-97 win.

The Red and Black led in the stats. They shot 54 percent in the field, 46 percent of their treys went in, and 81 percent from the free throw line.

The Vulcans play next this Friday, Dec. 3 at 7:30pm HT against Concordia Irvine. This will be their conference opener.
