HILO, Hawai'i-- Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones led the Vulcans with 21 points in their 79-67 victory over Hawaii Pacific in the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

UHH will improve 6-4 overall and 2-1 in PacWest, while the Sharks fall 3-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.Â
UH Hilo began the game with a three-pointer by Tait-Jones. From there the Vulcans battled for points with the Sharks until they broke away at 35-19 off a layup by
Max Kunnert.Â

Kunnert also sent the Vulcans into halftime with a three which brought the Vulcans up 40-25.Â

Hawaii Pacific began to chip away at UHH's lead in the second half. HPU was able to get themselves back within a 10-point reach with a little less than 12 minutes to go (53-43), but the Vulcans continued to find ways to score.

Ethan Jetter hit a three with a little less than four minutes remaining making the score 71-59.
Darren Williams ended the game with two good free throws, which resulted in the Vulcans' 79-67 final score.Â

The Vulcans shot 73 percent at the free throw line. Williams was an impressive 6-for-6, Jetter was 1-for-1 and Tait-Jones and
Donald McHenry were 2-for-4.Â

Tait-Jones, the Vulcans lead scorer, shot 9-for-11 in the field, averaging about 82 percent and just behind him in points was McHenry with 16 and Williams with 14.Â
Â
Williams was also 2-for-3 behind the arc, had seven assists, and two steals.Â
Â
Erik Borg played great on defense, having had two blocks in the night.

The men's team plays next Dec. 30 at 6:30pm HT. The Vulcans will rematch the Sharks' at the Shark Tank.
