Local UH Hilo freshman John Grover (Waiakea HS) has been named the PacWest Hawaii Pod Player of the Week for his weekend work on the soccer field against Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific.

Grover scored the only goal of the week in the Hawai`i Pod that wasn't an own goal as he helped the Vulcans to a pair of ties in tough defensive battles. The freshman took his first and only shot of the entire week just 90 seconds into the first game against Chaminade and he scored on that goal with an assist by Tom Vorkastner. For the next 178.5 minutes of soccer, he helped the Vulcans' defense hold opponents to just one goal.

The 5-foot-9 forward had two goals in the short spring season as the Vulcan men went 1-1-2 in the very tight Hawaii Pod.
