Are you kidding me? On the scale of massive upsets, there is the 1969 New York Mets, the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey Team, and....the 2021 UH Hilo Toykodachi Mascot?

The Vulcans pulled off their third upset in a row and fifth consecutive win in the Toykodachi Mascot Mania, topping Fresno State on Tuesday. The Vulcans now move into the Elite Eight to take on the University of Houston TODAY. 

The Vulcans edged the 2019 runner-up Fresno State by a mere 114 votes. UH Hilo was down earlier in the day 56 percent to 44 percent, but rallied with a surge of votes from Vulcan fans to end up with 10,321 total compared to 10,207 for the Bulldogs. 

Through five rounds, the Vulcans now have a total of 28,960 votes, the eighth highest total in the field. Once again though, UHH will play the underdog going up against the Cougars. Houston has a total of 36,759 votes through five rounds.

The other three quarterfinal match-ups are UC San Diego vs. Univ. of Washington, Jacksonville vs. Grand Canyon and Cal State Fullerton against the University of Oregon. If the Vulcans were to move on, they would play the winner of the Titans-Ducks match-up.
