WAIPAHU, O'ahu -- The UH Hilo women's soccer team faced Hawai'i Pacific in their fourth non-conference game of the 2021 season. The Vulcans woke up ready to battle, stunning the Sharks in a 4-0 victory. The Vulcans will improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Sharks drop 1-2.

UH Hilo scored early in the match, recording their first goal in the 15th minute by junior Daelenn Tokunaga. Tokunaga lasered one in off of a free kick towards the lower left of the goal, just out of grasp for the Sharks keeper. In the first half UHH outshot HPU 12-3, nine of which were on goal to HPU's one.

The Vulcans kept firing in shots until another landed in the second half to make the count 2-0. Filippa Graneld, coming in from the left side, took the Shark's goal keeper by surprise when she took a shot to the far right side of the goal (58:43). Assisted by Silje Vigeland, Graneld found her opening and the rest is history.

After the second goal, the Red and Black did not let up. Tokunaga scored her second goal of the game four minutes after Graneld, bumping the score 3-0 (62:44). Shortly after, Wall added to the Vulcans lead at 65:24 (4-0). Wall made in a header after receiving a good ball from Tokunaga who in turn received a quick pass from Graneld.

UHH keepers Viviana Poli and Taylor Hornburg earned a combined shutout. Both goalkeepers had one save. Tokunaga, Graneld, and Vigeland were all over the field taking four, seven, and five shots respectively. Tokunaga was a star, scoring two of the Vulcans four goals and assisting in another. Graneld was another key player assisting in two goals as well as scoring one of her own.

The women's soccer team will play next in another non-conference game against Chaminade University (Sept. 16).
