WAIPAHU, O'ahu-- After a scoreless first half, the Sharks were able to break through the Vulcans defense in their non-conference matchup. In the 52nd minute, HPU's Makana Srivongsana sent a shot to the far left that made it past UHH's senior goalkeeper Michael Harre.Â

The Sharks are now 2-2, while the Vulcans drop 1-1.Â

Hawai'i Pacific had a total of 12 shots, three of which were on goal. The Vulcans trailed closely behind with 11 shots, but with four that were on goal. The match was heated with twenty-two fouls being called, two yellow cards for HPU, and one yellow on UHH.

The Red and Black almost doubled their shots in the second half, but were still unable to penetrate the Sharks goal. HPU's goalkeeper, Jeremy Zielinski had four saves and led a combined effort with his defense's four blocked shots to shutdown the Vulcan's efforts. Tom Vorkastner led the Vulcan's offense with three shots, as well as Waturo Muto and Luca Lippert who had two apiece. UH Hilo's four on-target shots were taken by Vorkastner, Muto, Lippert, and Tommy Seaver. The Vulcan's also had four corner kicks to HPU's one.Â

Next up for the men's soccer squad is their home opener against Seattle Pacific. The game is set for Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m. HST.Â
