SAN RAFAEL, Calif.-- The Vulcans began their Northern California road trip with a 23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 win over Dominican. UH Hilo will improve 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the PacWest Conference. Dominican dropped to 0-12 in conference and to 0-3 in the PacWest.

The Penguins got an early jump on the Vulcans winning the first set 25-23. The Vulcans came back after the first set with three-consecutive wins, efficiently shaking off some rust. Prior to this match the Vulcans hadn't competed in a game for eight days, but were easily able to find their rhythm and get back into the groove of things. Â

The following three sets were won 25-16, 25-18, and 25-19. Dominican was able to take an early lead in the fourth set, but the Red and Black quickly shut them down.
Samara Cruz had the kill that put the Vulcans up 4-3 which was followed by five-straight points. Towards the end the Penguins were starting to come back again, but were once again shut down.
Bria Beale,
NCAA Women of the Year- Top 30 candidate, had the winning kill that sealed the deal.

Beale led the Vulcans with 16 kills, followed by Alex Parisian with 12, and
Samara Cruz with 11.
Ashton Jessee and Parisian had four blocks a piece closely followed by
Kamilla Marinas with three.
Kendall Kott led the team with 37 assists as well as digs totalling 17. Behind Kott in digs was
Tani Hoke with 16 and Beale with 10.Â

The Vulcans have three more games set for their NorCal road trip. Next up for the Vulcans is Academy of Art on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m. PT.Â
