HILO, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Hilo women's volleyball team enjoyed a straight-sets sweep of Dominican with scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-16 Saturday evening in Pacific West Conference action at the Vulcan Gymnasium.
After starting the match with an 0-4 deficit, the Vulcans quickly heated up and battled back from a 16-10 score to finish the opening set strong with nine consecutive points highlighted by four kills by Kamryn Childs (Syracuse, Utah/Syracuse HS).
The Vulcans mirrored a similar end in set No. 2 after taking a narrow 15-14 lead and leaving no doubt by scoring 10 of the last 11 points.
Like clockwork, Hawai'i Hilo closed out the sweep by out-scoring the Penguins, 9-3, in the final 12 points of the set to notch the win.

- Freshman Sophia Charpentier (Rosemount, Minnesota/Rosemount HS) put down a season-high nine kills to help lead the team in scoring. Nikki Logan (Huntington Beach, California/Edison HS) also had nine kills.
- Samara Cruz (Escondido, California/Escondido HS) followed with eight kills to go along with 13 digs.
- Childs finished with five kills and three service aces.
- Cara Bolte (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Maryknoll School) had a career-high seven kills.
- Emerson Reinke (Arvada, Colorado/Ralston Valley HS) dished out 27 assists while racking up 15 digs and three aces.
- Ella Heckman led the Penguins in scoring with seven kills and one block assist.
- Amani Abed totaled five block assists as Dominican held a 7-1 blocking advantage over the Vulcans.
What's Next
Hawai'i Hilo improved to 2-16 overall, 2-10 PacWest as Dominican fell to 0-12 in the PacWest (0-20 overall).
The Vulcans will be back at Vulcan Gymnasium Wednesday, Oct. 19 to take on Concordia University Irvine (8-3 PacWest, 11-7 overall).
The Penguins will return to California to play Holy Names Oct. 19.
