AZUSA, California – The Hawai'i Hilo men's soccer team wrapped up its season Saturday night after falling to Azusa Pacific on the road, 5-2, in Pacific West Conference action at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
After an early APU goal, the Vulcans immediately responded on the ensuing restart with Aidan Santos (Hilo, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Prep Academy) taking an errant clear attempt and feeding Julian Garcia (Albuquerque, New Mexico/Saint Pius X HS) over the top to hit the lower left side of the net for their first score in the last four matches.
APU re-took the lead in the 19th minute but the Vulcans got the equalizer once again after Alexander Hernandez-Herbach (Pasadena, California/Pasadena HS) intercepted a mid-field pass and took it all the way back for a 20-yard shot to hit the back of the net.
Hawai'i Hilo was held scoreless in the second half as the Cougars netted three goals to take the win.
Saturday was only the fourth time this season the Vulcans had amassed more shots than their opponent, out-shooting APU at a 16-11 chip.
