Kanbara Ends Eleven-Inning Duel, 3-2

HILO, Hawai'i– Jaryn Kanbara ended an eleven-inning duel with a walk-off homer over left center. The no-doubter put UH Hilo up 3-2 over Holy Names at Wong Stadium on Thursday Night.

The Vulcans improved 16-6 overall and 5-4 in the PacWest while the Hawks fell 12-12 and 5-6 in the conference.

Both teams' starting pitchers went nine-innings on the hill, resulting in a 2-2 ball game in the tenth inning where the relievers practically started a brand new game in extra innings. James Yamasaki was UHH's starter, who allowed 10 hits in nine innings, firing three strikeouts.

John Kea took the mound for the Vulcans in the tenth along with HNU's Simon Martinez who went in for the Hawks.

Kea faced six batters in two innings. He produced three flyouts in his first appearance and had another 1-2-3 inning in the eleventh, striking out the final two batters to send his team to offense. Kea picked up his fourth win of the season.

Kanbara was the lead off batter in the bottom of the eleventh which is all that the Vulcans seemed to need as he slammed an aloha ball far beyond the left center fence (3-2).

The Vulcans are playing their final game against Holy Names now which will be seven innings.
