IRVINE, Calif.-- The UH Hilo men's tennis team defeated ITA's nationally ranked No. 44 Concordia University Irvine at the CUI Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon in a 5-2 battle.
CUI took the doubles point, but UHH won five of the six individual matches to grab the victory.
ITA's nationally ranked No. 11 Martin Soukal (UHH) faced the No. 38 Leon Czamikau (CUI) in a three-set face off. Czamikau (CUI) took the first set 1-6 but Soukal bounced back to take a must-win second set and a 6-3 third.
Joshua Liu also went three against Adam Large, taking the eventual win (6-2, 5-7, 6-0).
Alessio Demichelis, Luca Checchia, and Luca Matheiowetz also picked up wins for the Vulcans on their respective courts.
The Vulcans compete again tomorrow Friday, Mar. 17 against Point Loma at the PLNU Tennis Courts.
