Davies Goes the Distance in Seven-Inning Shutout

Vulcans split series with Sunbirds 2-2

HILO, Hawai'i– The UH Hilo baseball team forced a split with Fresno Pacific after losing the first game (7-3), coming back to win the second game (1-0) at Wong Stadium.

UHH is now 13-6 overall and 2-4 in the PacWest Conference, while the Sunbirds are 9-5 and 2-2 in the PacWest.

Game Two: UHH 1, FPU 0 (seven innings)
Aaron Davies threw seven-scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Davies picked up his third win of the season, only allowing the Sunbirds three hits and three walks in the shutout.

The Vulcans lone run came in the third. Casey Yamauchi doubled with two outs. Joseph Gallagher then picked up Yamauchi with a single to score what would be the only run of the game (1-0).

From there on the Vulcans held the Sunbirds down on defense.

FPU fought back in the seventh but was ultimately unable to sneak past UHH's defensive wall. FPU's Ben Jungbluth started the two-out rally by doubling down the left field line. Cole Yoshida (FPU) then smoked a hard ball down the right baseline that was intercepted by Kobie Russell, ending the game in UH Hilo's favor 1-0.

Game One: FPU 7 UHH 3
Fresno Pacific only out-hit UH Hilo 14-10 in their 7-3 victory. Four of the Sunbirds seven runs were scored because of Vulcan errors.

Bradyn Yoshida led UHH's offensive effort going 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles.

Four Vulcan hurlers saw time on the mound including Christian DeJesus (4 IP), Ty Honda (1.2 IP), Jamieson Hirayama (.1), and Eamon Velarde (3 IP).

The Vulcans play Holy Names next on Mar. 9 and Mar. 10 at 3:30 and 7pm HST at Wong Stadium.
