AZUSA, Calif.--The UH Hilo baseball team fell 13-8 in the first part of their final regular-season series, but rallied back in the second part of the day's doubleheader, almost pulling off their second win over No. 21 Azusa Pacific but fell just short taking the 11-10 loss.
In the second game the Cougars (31-14, 20-7 PacWest) had a strong offensive first inning with three home runs that scored four runs (4-0).
The Vulcans (27-19, 15-17 PacWest) answered back in the second, utilizing situational hitting and base knocks by Bradyn Yoshida and Ryan Cho to bridge the gap, 4-3.
The Cougars would make their next move in the fourth, extending their lead 7-3 which left the Vulcans with their work cut out for them.
UH Hilo did what they do best, which is fighting to the very end. The Red and Black chipped away at the scoreboard, scoring runs the next three innings and coming back to take their first lead of the game 10-8 in the top of the seventh.Â
The Vulcans lead ended up being short lived, with the Cougars tying up the game in the seventh and eventually winning the game with a walk-off hit in the first extra inning, 11-10.
Aaron Davies began the game, throwing 1.2 innings and John Kea came in to throw what would end up being five innings of relief.Â
Three Vulcans batted 500 and above including Casey Yamauchi (3-for-5), Brett Komatsu (2-for-2), and Chris Aubort (1-for-1).
