CSUSB entered Friday as the seventh-ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason Coaches Poll and twice went on consecutive-point runs of six apiece in the opening set.

But Hawai'i Hilo battled tough through the second frame and found a grove to notch a six-point streak of its own to ride out to a 25-22 victory.

During the run, Kamryn Childs (Syracuse, Utah/Syracuse HS) and Samara Cruz (Escondido, Calif./Escondido HS) notched three and two kills, respectively, as Mahina Kenoi (Hilo, Hawai'i/Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i) finished it off with a service ace.

UH Hilo again played tough in the last two sets, but the Coyotes ultimately pulled away to get the win to improve to 2-0 on the season.
