Vulcans host Hawai‘i Pacific and Chaminade this weekend.

PACWEST HAWAI'I CHALLENGE

This weekend's games also mark the beginning of the defense of Hawai'i Hilo's claim as winners of the 2021-22 PacWest Hawai'i Challenge.

The Vulcans won the competition last year for the first time since the reintroduction of the challenge in 2015. With the omission of the 2020-21 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, HPU had won the last five years in a row with a co-championship claim with BYU-Hawai'i in the first year.

The PacWest Hawai'i Challenge is comprised of nine sports that all three of the state's Division II schools participate: women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, women's tennis, men's golf and softball.

Points are awarded in head-to-head matchups in basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball. For women's cross country, men's golf and women's tennis, points are award in the order of finish at the PacWest Championships.
