Men's Basketball Announces 2022-23 Schedule

Vulcans will play 17 games to open the season before leaving the state.

HILO, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Hilo men's basketball team will open with 17 games in the home state as part of the Vulcans' 2022-23 schedule which features six non-conference matchups and games in the Big Island Holiday Classic – a 22-contest slate involving 23 schools spanning seven days throughout November and December.

The Vulcans will be taking on University of Central Oklahoma, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Milligan University.

(CORRECTION 09/24/22): Dependent on the result of the Milligan game, the Hawai'i Hilo will play the winner/loser of Central Methodist University and Valley City State University.

To tip-off the season, UH Hilo will take a trip to O'ahu for an exhibition with Division-I Hawai'i Manoa.

Rounding out the non-conference schedule will be a pair of games with Southwestern Assemblies of God American Indian College (NCCAA) and Alaska Anchorage.

"This season we have a number of outstanding programs coming to Hilo from all over the country," third-year Hawai'i Hilo men's basketball head coach Kaniela Aiona said. "We have a challenging schedule that will push us to develop as a team in preparation for PacWest play."

UH Hilo opens Pacific West Conference action with back-to-back series against Hawai'i Pacific University and Chaminade University of Honolulu — first on O'ahu then back in Hilo to close out the calendar year.

The Vulcans will host six PacWest games at home in January 2023 against Point Loma Nazarene, Concordia Irvine, Dominican, Academy of Art, Azusa Pacific and Biola.

Hawai'i Hilo will fly to the continental U.S. for the first time in late January for a four-game itinerary with the Northern California teams of Holy Names, Fresno Pacific, Dominican and Academy of Art.

Finishing out the conference schedule, the Vulcans will have their final home games Feb. 8 and 11 before rounding out with a four-game slate in Southern California Feb. 16-23.
