Women's Volleyball Opens Road Trip With a Loss

Vulcans were downed in straight sets by Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. – The Hawai'i Hilo women's volleyball team embarked on a four-game Pacific West Conference journey to southern California and opened with a 3-0 loss to Azusa Pacific Monday evening at the Felix Event Center.

The Vulcans were dropped in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 25-17.

The Cougars controlled much of the match, led by junior Annaka Jorgenson's 14 kills, two blocks and six digs.

Kamryn Childs (Syracuse, Utah/Syracuse HS) led the Vulcans in points with 10 kills. Sophia Charpentier (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) followed with six kills and three blocks – two solo – as Samara Cruz (Escondido, Calif./Escondido HS), Chloe Culanding (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield HS) and Nikki Logan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) each totaled five kills apiece.

Emerson Reinke (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) had 28 assists as senior Kendall Kott (Shingle Springs, Calif./Ponderosa HS) returned to very limited action — only the last three points of the match — after having not played since the second game of the season.
