HILO, Hawai'i – The second annual Vulcan Challenge is just past the mid-way point and has seen tremendous support from the greater Hawai'i Hilo Vulcan Athletics community with over 390 donors to date.
Now for the second year in a row, KTA Super Stores and the Taniguchi 'Ohana have pledged to match the next $25,000 in gifts — dollar for dollar!
KTA Super Stores will match up to $1,000 to each sports program while the remaining balance will go to the UH Hilo Vulcan Athletics Fund to support the department as a whole.
"We are so thankful for the outpouring of support for the Vulcan Challenge," Hawai'i Hilo director of athletics Patrick Guillen said. "This $25,000-matching gift from our friends at KTA Super Stores made to honor the memory of Koichi and Taniyo Taniguchi, the founders of KTA Super Stores, is incredibly humbling. Toby Taniguchi and his team at KTA are so supportive of UH Hilo and Vulcan Athletics. There really are no words that properly express our gratitude for all that they do for our students and the program. Mahalo!"
Vulcan pride is strong in our greater community and your commitment continues to send that message.
Join KTA Super Stores and the Taniguchi family, make a gift and double up with Vulcan Challenge 2022.
Vulcan Challenge 2022
For the second consecutive year, the University of Hawai'i at Hilo Vulcan Athletics has partnered with the University of Hawai'i Foundation to raise funds in support of the Vulcan athletics department and its sports programs.
With the generous help from our supporters, we have currently raised over $70,000 in funds.
Vulcan Challenge 2022 runs Aug. 22 to Sept. 19 with the goal of raising $75,000 for immediate support of Hawai'i Hilo's student-athletes in our 12 varsity sports.
In our inaugural run in 2021, the then-90-day fundraiser brought in $223,500 from over 400 generous donors.
