KOHALA COAST, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Hilo Men's Golf team wrapped up fall play with its own Dennis Rose Intercollegiate at the Hapuna Golf Course at the Mauna Kea Resort this past weekend.
Nicholas Gomez led with a one-over finish at a tie for 23rd place as the Vulcans finished 20-plus at a tie for No. 12 with Sonoma State.
"Luckily, I played well. My goal is just to make pars because some holes are stressful and some are easy," Gomez said. "Just leaving everything out there. This my last year and I just want to have a good time."
Gomez, a fifth-year senior, is one of two returnees from a lineup that claimed the 2023 Pacific West Conference Championship earlier this year in the spring.
"It's been good so far. There's a lot of young guys and new guys so I think when it's spring time, we'll be able to put it all together when it counts," Gomez said.
UT Permian Basin claimed its second team win of the week after previously winning the HPU Sharks Shootout at the Mauna Lani Golf Course. The Falcons shot 19-under as Sangha Park finished at minus-10 to claim the individual crown.
The Vulcans will take a three-month break before starting spring play by hosting the 33rd Amer Ari Intercollegiate in early February at the Mauna Lani Golf Course against a heavy field of Division-I teams.
Hawai'i Hilo will then have three events in California before looking to defend its conference title at the 2024 PacWest Conference Championship set for mid-April at Mauna Lani Golf Course.
