HONOLULU, Hawai'i – In the penultimate match of the regular season, the Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball team fell to No. 14 Chaminade in straight sets (16-25, 16-25, 21-25) Friday evening in Pacific West Conference action at McCabe Gymnasium.
Unlike the two teams' previous match in Hilo when the Vulcans came out strong to take the opening set, it was the Silverswords who managed to start hot with a 10-1 advantage in Set 1. But Hawai'i Hilo battled strong and fought back to make it just a four-point deficit at 12-8 before allowing the 'Swords to score nine of the next 11 points on the way to taking the opening frame.
Chaminade again started Set 2 with an early lead and eventually closed out a back-and-forth Set 3 for the sweep.
Raelee Samio led the Vulcans with eight kills while Kamryn Childs totaled four block assists.

PACWEST HAWAI'I CHALLENGE
In an effort to elevate Hawai'i-based rivalries, the PacWest Hawaii Challenge has awarded the top school in athletics competition among the state's Division II institutions going back to the late 1970s.
Comprising 10 sports that all three schools participate in, points are awarded from head-to-head Pacific West Conference matchups as well as final placements at conference-ending meets and events. At the conclusion of each sport's season, the team with the highest total gets three points while the second-highest gets two and the third-place finisher receives one.
Chaminade currently holds a slight lead with nine points after taking the top score in women's volleyball. Both Hawai'i Hilo and HPU are tied at six points apiece as Saturday's volleyball match will determine the second and third-place finishes for the sport and the fall season.
