Volleyball Sweeps Dominican in Return Home

Hawai‘i Hilo defeated Dominican, 3-0, in the penultimate home match of the season.

HILO, Hawai'i – It's the final stretch of the regular season and the Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball team jump-started its last home stand with a straight-sets victory over Dominican (25-7, 25-21, 25-21) Wednesday evening in Pacific West Conference play at the Vulcan Gymnasium.

All 16 available Vulcans players saw action as Samara Cruz led with 12 kills and eight digs. The Vulcans finished with nine service aces as Cruz, Baylee Goeas Galdeira, Emerson Reinke and Tani Hoke each put down a pair of hot serves.

Hoke also finished the match with eight digs to inch closer toward the program's all-time career mark of 1,564 set by Mina Grant (15-18). The senior libero ranks third at 1,550 digs with Tanya Fuamatu (92-95) sandwiched between at 1,559.

Hawai'i Hilo opened the match with zero hitting errors in the opening set as it hit .560 while closing out the final nine points of the frame.

The two teams previously met Oct. 5 in California with the Vulcans victorious in three sets.

It was the first match back on the Big Island after a jam-packed Southern-California trip comprised of five matches in a nine-day span.
