ALAMEDA, California – The Hawai'i Hilo baseball team surrendered walk-off losses in both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Holy Names, 7-6 and 5-4, in Pacific West Conference action at the College of Alameda.
The two losses completed a four-game sweep by the Hawks in which all but one ended in walk-off fashion.
With the Vulcans trailing by one run heading into the ninth, pinch hitter Cody was hit by pitch to lead the inning off. After a sacrifice bunt moved him over to second, Casey Yamauchi drove him in with an RBI single to tie the score at 6-6.
The bottom frame started in similar fashion with Holy Names drawing a lead-off walk followed by a sac bunt to move the runner over. The next batter hit a grounder to short but Yamauchi's throw over to first base sailed high and out of play, bringing home the game-winning run.
In the second game, HNU again led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk before being moved over on a sacrifice bunt as Jaime Garcia nabbed the walk-off hit with an RBI single to left field.
Hawai'i Hilo fell under .500 in conference play and now sits at No. 7 in the regular season standings.
