LA MIRADA, California – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball capped its Southern California road trip with five-set victory over Biola (25-13, 17-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9) Friday evening at the Chase Gymnasium in the penultimate match of the Pacific West Conference season.
This was the 10th match of the season that went the full distance as the Vulcans bookended the opening and closing sets hitting .400 with just three attack errors to outscore the Eagles at a 40-22 margin.
Set 1 saw Taylor Tulo put down nine of her 17 kills for a .667 opening-set hitting percentage. After being down early, 7-3, the Vulcans rallied to take 21 of the next 23 points, including 12 consecutive to close the run. Samara Cruz also totaled 17 kills with a big Set 3, hitting .500 on seven kills with two service aces.
Isabella Freeman again put down a career-high 10 total blocks (one solo). Tullo also had a career night on the defensive end with six total blocks (one solo).

In the process, Cruz became a member of an exclusive club after surpassing 1,000 career digs. Earlier in the week, the fifth-year senior eclipsed the 1,000-kills mark and is now one of just three Vulcans in program history to record 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs and 100 service aces in their career — joining Tanya Fuamatu (92-95) and Bria Beale (18-21).
Hoke, who had become the program's all-time leader in digs at the end of last season, also reached a new milestone in surpassing the 2,000 career mark. The Kailua, Hawai'i native is now one of just eight active NCAA Division II players with more than 2,000 career digs.
Hawai'i Hilo moved to 11-8 in conference play (16-13 overall) slotted at No. 5 in the standings. Biola moved to a 4-13 record (5-18 overall).
Vulcans close their season back at home against unbeaten Chaminade, who handed Point Loma its first loss of the season earlier in the evening to put the Silverswords in the driver's seat for the conference title.
