FRESNO, California – Hawai'i Hilo Baseball claimed its first Pacific West Conference series victory of the season after downing Fresno Pacific, 9-2 and 7-6, in Saturday's twinbill at FPU Diamond.
The two teams had split Friday's doubleheader after trading offensive poundings in a 9-6 win for the Vulcans before an 11-5 defeat to the Sunbirds. Hawai'i Hilo took advantage of both defensive and pitching miscues by FPU for the Game 3 victory before simply winning the battle of a back-and-forth one-run Game 4.
Jake Liberta bookended the series with a pair of saves in closing out victories in Game 1 and Game 4 to leave five total runners stranded.
Arthur Soto totaled five RBI in Saturday's doubleheader, driving in the game-winning runs for both victories: first a two-out RBI double in the third inning of Game 3 followed by a two-out RBI base hit in the top of the seventh of Game 4.
Soto entered the series with just three hits through 11 games played in the conference season, but he more than tripled that number by adding seven hits over the weekend. He also tacked on four doubles to now sit in a tie for No. 2 in all of the NCAA Division II (as of Saturday night). Collin Goda of Lincoln Memorial (Tennessee) also has 14 two-base hits on the season with Angelo State's (Texas) Tayten Tredaway ahead by one.

It's the first series victory for the Vulcans in the PacWest Conference season, now moving to a tie with Fresno Pacific at No. 4 with matching 7-9 records.
GAME 3: HAWAI'I HILO 9 - FRESNO PACIFIC 2
- Hawai'i Hilo pitchers surrendered just three walks while FPU's bullpen combined for seven walks and four hit batsmen. The Vulcans capitalized as five of their six total hits accounted for seven of their runs. Cody Min and Mark Fedro clutched up with two-out multi-RBI hits in the third and fourth innings, respectively, to help the Vulcans to a 7-0 lead.
- Bryce Lindberg continued his hit streak with his first-career home run to close the scoring on a solo shot in the sixth inning.
- Aaron Davies got the start and nearly went the full distance in 8.0 innings with a career-high nine strikeouts and 10 scattered hits.
GAME 4: HAWAI'I HILO 7 - FRESNO PACIFIC 6 (7 INNINGS)
- Both teams wasted no time to provide early action as the game sat tied, 4-4, at the end of the first inning. The Vulcans clumped together four hits, capped off by Lindberg's second-career homer on a two-run shot to left-center field. The Sunbirds also managed three hits but were aided by two walks and two errors to even the score.
- Cody Min launched his third homer of the season for a one-run lead in the third inning.
- After FPU took the lead with a timely two-RBI base hit in the B3, Bradyn Yoshida and Vance Oshiro responded with back-to-back singles in the top of the fourth to score Lindberg, who led the inning off by reaching on an error.
- Arthur Soto drove in the game-winning run with a single to center field in the top of the seventh inning.
- Jake Liberta entered to start the bottom half of the final inning and got the job done for his fourth save of the season.
