SANTA BARBARA, California – Hawai'i Hilo Baseball closed its 12-game road trip with losses to Westmont, 6-1 and 8-2, Tuesday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at Russ Carr Field.
The defending NAIA National Champion Warriors continued to impose their will not only on the Vulcans, but the PacWest Conference as a whole.
First game of the doubleheader was a bit of a pitching duel as Westmont again racked up 10 strikeouts while the Vulcans kept pace nine. In the series finale, Hawai'i Hilo got some help from the Warriors pitchers in drawing six walks and three hit-by-pitches, but they couldn't cash in after mustering just two hits.
With eight conference games to go, the Vulcans will have to go on a hot streak to make their case for the four-team PacWest Conference Championship postseason tournament. In terms of win percentage, Hawai'i Hilo is bringing up the rear at .292 with Westmont at the top at .906. Point Loma (.725), Azusa Pacific (.667), Biola (.467) and Concordia University Irvine (.417) follow in order.
