HILO, Hawai'i – WIth the series tied, the Hawai'i Hilo Baseball team fell in a doubleheader sweep to No. 4 Point Loma, 10-3 and 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at Francis Wong Stadium.
The Sea Lions once again brought out the bats for the opening game of the day before knotting up for a tightly-contested matchup in Game 2 with the Vulcans.
GAME 3: NO. 4 POINT LOMA 10 - HAWAI'I HILO 3
- Hawai'i Hilo switched up from its normal lineup a bit as Aaron Davies got the start on the pitching mound. Paired with a few free bases to batters, a wild pitch and a throwing error on what should have been the third out, the Sea Lions managed to dish out four base hits for four runs — two unearned.
- Kyle Casados entered the game at shortstop in the top of the third and got things going in the bottom half with a single to center field. Bradyn Yoshida and Vance Oshiro followed up with consecutive base hits to bring Casados around for the Vulcans' first run of the game.
- The Vulcans shortened the gap in the fifth inning starting on Yoshida's 100th-career hit with a double to right-center field. Oshiro once again followed up with a consecutive base hit for an RBI to make it a 4-2 deficit.
- From there, the Sea Lions managed to double up their hits total with eight more to plate six runners across. PLNU's 16 hits was its third-highest total in a single game this season.
GAME 4: NO. 4 POINT LOMA 3 - HAWAI'I HILO 0 (7 INNINGS)
- PLNU plated a run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. While the Sea Lions managed to clump four hits together, only one of the three runs were marked as earned.
- Nick Agacki got the start, going 5.1 innings with no walks given up (but three beaned batters) and just one earned run allowed.
- With only three hits and zero free passes surrendered by PLNU pitchers, Hawai'i Hilo didn't have many opportunities to get on the scoreboard but perhaps its best chance was the bottom of the fourth. Alec Yamauchi got on with an opposite-field base hit followed by Bryce Lindberg's double down the left-field line to put two runners in scoring position, but they were left stranded as the Vulcans couldn't cash in.
